Talking Got my rx7 today!

Gotta tell everyone this story. I just bought an 88 se for 300 beans. The guy I bought it from said it had a blown motor. So anyway.... I drove it home. The car had zero power, if I stomped on the throttle nothing.

So my friend and I pull into a taco bell on the way home and I notice this pig is smoking! I walk around to the back and look down at the left tail pipe and, wait... what's this, it's glowing orange!!!! I bend down and look under the car and the entire exhaust is glowing orange from the cat all the way back!!!!!

So I figure that the cat or the exhaust, somewhere, is cloged maybe??? What else would cause the pipes to glow like that?? If that's all it is, is that... that's awesome! The body on this car is pefect expect for the sunroof has a little rust on it.

Some other things with it.... the reverse lights don't work, the wind shield wipers don't work (there are switches on the dash for them) and it's got 136000 miles on it, never rebuilt.

Now that I shared my story.... I'm going to bed.

foot notes: bought a car for $300 and the exhaust was glowing orange.

check out www.rx7.com. get their race pipe if you have no emissions testing in your area and you should be good to go if it is a clogged cat. Funny thing is that mod will be worth about 1/2 what you paid for you car....good find if it is only clogged cats.

I'm going to know for sure probably tomorrow. I'm just going to cut the cat off and see how it runs. It definatly can't run any worse... it doesn't even idle by itself now.

I can actually have a friend of mine from a garage near by make me a test pipe... he did it for my civic once. He'll only charge me about 20 dollars!!!!

Cool. You got the car at a good price. It will be even better if the only problem is the clogged cats. Try it and see what happens.

Sounds like your cat is clogged. Be careful I had a friend that when his cat was clogged so bad the exhaust had no where to go, but it found a way out and blew out the EGR. I would not run the car any more till you get some replacement cats or a race pipe . Because changing the EGR on the series 4 N/A’s is a pain in the ***. Just a thought, Peace.
