Got my car cool again with R-152a yesterday, but I have some questions...

Jackhild came by yesterday and we did a trade. Recharge and fix my AC and I install your radio. Fair enough! In the 13 years I have been driving I have never had a functional AC in any car I owned. Lets face it, I love old cars, and old cars use r-12 systems and by the time I am the owner the **** dont work anymore.

I do have a few questions though...

1) Idle

The car idles like a champ and was idling like a champ yesterday when me and jack took the car out for a test drive with the new AC. Today, it will idle fine, then get real low, then jump up sometimes idling fine, but sometimes it would idle hunt. My TPS is fine and tested fine today. When I got home from running errands, the car idled like **** even with the AC off. It never died, the idle was just really low, at about 300rpm.

2) Fixing the idle issue

I have had an issue before where If I beat on the car enough and it gets warm enough it starts to idle like ****. I have tweaked the idle screw on top of the throttle body but it is maxed out. I did an SCCA event and beat the ever loving **** out of the car but when we got to the finish line the ECU could barely hold a good idle. Same thing with today, the extra stress of running the AC seemed to wreak havoc on a perfectly functional system.

Do I need to tweak the scary throttle body screws? Is there a how to?

Beside all that, Jackhild is a cool guy and I was glad to meet him (we never went to lunch! )and helped me out a lot.

The BAC valve is supposed to compensate for engine loads (like AC), so I'd start with it.

check for vacuum leaks, make sure all the spark plugs are hitting and check the thermowax adjustment.

most likely you have a vacuum leak that is related to the slight temperature increase, like a cracked brake booster hose right off the engine.

I just check and the BAC is doing it job.

My main suspicion since lyger pointed it out, id the brake booster hose being all cracked and such.

if it's cracking at the curves then its highly likely its a point of a major vacuum leak at varying times.

the check valve is near the booster, the line that cracks and leaks is off the engine to the firewall.
