I picked up a 1986 GXL for $600 today. (my G/f paid for it actually)

It has a decent leather interior a nice sound system. The electronic suspenton still works. It runs good. Not a bad car for 600.

The paint is thick and yellow. it used to be silver though.

The guy sold it because it overheated on him on his way to work. I replaced the heater core hose and it's fine now.

Has a rebuilt motor but the speedo is effed.

I'm a happy camper tonight. And I'm glad I found a girl who has impulses to buy rotaries.

about your speedo. have you made sure to check that the speedo wire is screwed in tightly into your trans from under the car?
