Good Project Car?

my friend junked a Mazda RX-7 1990 Red,loaded,auto,80,000 miles
anyways,he bought it not running, needed some work, and he never got around to getting the work done, and he had it running one point before "junking" it.I'm going to the junkyard to retrieve this baby, I know that the engine is in good shape, not so sure about the transmission, but I look forward to dropping in a 5 speed manual, instead of the pussie 4 speed auto.
The reason he junked it was he was moving and didnt want to take it with him

any suggestions about working on these cars, this is my first rotary engine I've ever touched, and other stuff in a foreign car, I've only worked on GM and ford's before.any tips or any precautions i should take?

thanks guys
