good idea to do this to my hood?

I was thinking once going FMIC I would love to pull some heat from out of the engine bay.

this looks like a cheap alternative...what do ya think????

Huh, so you just need to take a sawzall to you existing hood and then rivet that puppy on, eh? How much does something like that go for?

Um, I don't think you'd be doing quite the same thing as a FMIC... the FMIC seems like it would do a much better job of cooling the charge air for the motor... seems like you would just be pulling heat from the engine bay. Which, in turn, MIGHT help the stock intercooler... but it's still sitting right on top of the engine soaking up heat. Looks like rice more than anything.

My opinion...

Josh

Edit: Oh, I didn't see the H-mount in the picture... hmmm, I still like the FMIC much better... just makes more sense.

i can almost see this working to remove the air ... but i duno, if its just placed ontop it doesnt seem like it would "catch" the hot air and lift it out... i cant really explain what i mean, its something that needs to be illustrated.

You might as well do it.... Since no one can seem to produce a vented hood for the FC.

While that would be a good mod to reduce underhood temps, in no way is this a replacement for a good FMIC. You cant beat a larger, more efficient core placed in a much better location. If anything you will loose the "forced" cooling from the forward facing stock scoop if you use that with a TMIC.

Reading his post, I think he meant this might be a good addition to the FMIC because he wants to remove heat from the engine bay. That this reverse scoop would be a cheap alternative to say... a full hood?

No, he said alternative... I think he's wanting to do that H-mount in the pictures on the linked website. I understand it in theory... the whole Bernoulli's principle and all... sucking the air through instead of ramming it head on like a FMIC... I have my doubts that it would be as effective, however. The vented hood to rid heat from the engine bay, however, is probably a good idea, in conjunction with a FMIC.... I've seen the reverse cowl TII hoods before... I would like to see the stock TII hood, an FMIC and some aluminum baffling inside the engine compartment to control the flow of air and promote cooling... like air-cooled airplane engines I think that has potential... and you get to keep the stock hood.

sorry I didnt mean for it to be confusing fellas.

The one guy was right....I am keeping my top mount and stock T2 hood for now.
When I do go to a FMIC I want to rivet and mould this vent onto my stock hood, that way I can pull out some heat to offset the blocked flow of air to the radiator due to the intercooler.

I think it looks pretty good, even though I would preffer a Panspeed hood this is a $180 part that would really help on the circuit.

well ball park 5-6 but it depends if I cn do a group buy or not and it depends on how many people I can get intrested then i think the louvered hood with a few modification will be the first to get molded but ill try to up in the second gen section when I have a better idea of time frame and all tha .
thanks Mael

Ah well, usually when people say "alternative", they tell what the other choice is... since he linked us to an H-Mount intercooler, logic would tell you this was his other "alternative"... whatever... we could all use some Hooked on Phonics here... or maybe we could just grow up a bit.

And yes, the hood piece thingy, whatever it is, louvered hood, it seems like a perfectly good idea with a FMIC. I'll keep the OEM, however.

Not trying to be mean. Hell, I never even saw an H-mount anywhere. Just opened his link, saw the vent and figured that's what he meant. ****, I can rhyme too. Anyways, I deal with too many foreign professors. Figuring out wtf they are trying to say has become second nature. Not saying YuSoSlo is a foreigner tho, and if he is, nothing wrong with it. haha

HAHA no not a foreigner....but an Engineer so fair enough, english isnt my game...numbers are.

I didnt see a H-mount setup in the link, just the rivet on hood vent.

Well I think I am going to do it this summer unless I get a good deal on a Panspeed.

Word... well, no harm; no foul. If you click on the picture of the car at that website, it will bring up about 8 more pictures... the car has a "top" or what I call, an "H" mount... enough said... good luck with your hood. I don't think this thing is a great setup, however. Go with the Panspeed.
