Good deal or not?

A guy up the street from me wants to sell me his '87 GXL for cheap. I noticed it the other day and left a note that said I'd be interested in some of his interior parts.
He claims everything works mechanically and electronically on the car, but the motor wont start... he says "it just needs a spark." Said a new main relay would fix the problem.

Does this sound like an easy fix? What other questions should I ask this guy? I'm going to school and I don't need the car, just the speedo and plastic around the gauges. But if I can grab this for $500, put $50 into it and have a running car that I can sell for $1000 why not right?
Haven't verified this but supposed to have low mileage, it'd need new seats, and a boot for the shifter and a new pass side tailight.

What do you guys think?
Brandon

compression test it. If that checks out then yeah $500 is probably a good deal.

I think that if all it really needed was a new relay, the guy would fix it himself and sell the car for $1,500 more than what he is now asking.
