Question good deal??

ok i have a 90 n/a vert with an auto i want to do a 5-speed coversion the problem is mainly money.......
my friend (who is a honda freak) is buying a 86 rx-7 with a blown engine and he told me he will sell me the engine and tranny for a $100
here are the ?'s:
will the tranny fit on mine?
will it hold up? (last?)(i am running stock)
is it worth doing the conversion if my only opt. is for this 86 tranny(the auto is worn out and not shifting very well and leaks)

I don't know what to tell you. I let one of the more advanced mechanics here help you on that one.

The tranny shouldn't be a problem, unless the synchro rings are worn out. Replacing the pedal assembly will be a pain (time consuming), but if you've got a donor car, you're all set. The only gotcha with the 86 tranny to 90 engine swap is that you'll have to get a flywheel and clutch for a 89-91 engine. The 86-88 have a different counterweight, and the clutch is smaller.

One bit of advice - buy a new clutch master cylinder.

FWIW - You shold be able to part out the engine for the $100 you're paying for the engine/tranny combo.
