Is this is good deal?

Because I have been missing my shitty 7 that I had two years ago I'm looking for another one as a daily now. I found this one locally right up my street. it's a 89 vert with 133,xxx miles. I went and look at it and the body and frame is all pretty clean only thing I saw was what looked like someone at one point in time tried to break into the driver side door and pry it with a crow bar. The issue is that the transmission is out he said that it would go into first and second gear along with reverse and that was it. He said he had pulled it and that a link or a line or something was broke and he replaced that and he also has another transmission for it. I got him down to $875 with the agreement that he will tow it to my house. Title is in his name. It has been sitting for about two and a half months he said he was driving it before then.

The rolling chassis looks to be worth the price, regardless of the drivetrain.

+1 i see a bunch of stuff wrong (where did the fan shroud go?) but for $800 its a great deal...

the Vert is the nicest way to have an FC, so that one could be buy, detail, undo everything the previous owner did, and enjoy.

I think it is an OK deal. The mirrors are wrong, the battery cover is missing (required for autocrossing), and the car may have cooling problems with no fan shroud or radiator duct. Is the undertray missing too?

Keep in mind that a replacement top is usually about $800-1,500 in parts and labor. If you don't have a garage then the top will only last a few years, depending on the weather in your area and how much you raise and lower the top.

Thanks for the input guys. I honestly didn't even realize that the fan shroud was gone. Mine never had one either. the battery cover isn't to big of a deal for me as this car wont be raced. Maybe just slid in the snow and rain. And I live in Oklahoma so hail will be an issue every once in a while but Once I move into my new house I will have my own garage. I did look at the mirrors and thought that they were funny. Those are indeed s4 and not s5. I guess my only issue is I don't want to buy it with a bad engine. I already have a 240 that is my project car. I don't really need two. Although I guess swapping in an engine wouldn't be to big of deal if that's what I had to do.

Also the intake tube in the picture is gone but it was there when I looked at the car. I believe he had it off for the picture because he put a cone filter on it.

more unnecessary tinkering...
looks ok for the price at least as a roller, as mentioned. but it looks as though someone was "modding" it so who knows what else has been "modded"...

Did he wash it with dish soap and get drunk and forget to rinse it off? What's that residue all over the paint?

Honestly not quite sure but it seems to mainly just be on the hood.

I did find out that he does have the fan shroud. He said he had removed it after he parked it so it was easier to work on the engine.

Doesn't seem like a bad deal, if you get it and need some parts to finish it out hit me up, I'm in OK as well and have enough parts to build a vert and more, I try to be reasonable on pricing, melt me know if you need anything!

Just bought a Vert myself with a good engine and a good transmission a working top and just about everything else needing to be fixed/replaced and I paid $1400 for mine, so I'd say this is a damn good deal man. Still trying to find someone to help me out with a drivers side fender for cheap though lol.

Ps- who breaks into Verts? Thought they always just cut huge holes in the tops? Lol.
