Is this a good buy?

1991 GXL with 89,000 miles with a new transmission. $4000.

I am going to look at this car tommorow so I won't have all that great of an idea of the overall condition of the car until tommorow. Also could anyone reccomend a good mechanic/shop in the Dallas area that I should have look at the car before purchasing? Thanks in advance.

Rotary Performance in Garland. Take a 13/16 spark plug socket and wrench. Pull the spark plugs out. With the plugs out, turn the key, and hold it to the on position for a few seconds. Listen. Does it sound like a train going over tracks? It's a "Pft-pft-pft" noise. Evenly spaced apart, and of equal volume. If not, if you hear, a missing "pft", or the noise is very quiet, then bad compression. How does it idle? Does the idle bounce? Is it even? Just things to look for. Good luck, and keep us posted! I paid $4k for my 91 coupe, fully loaded, and 96K miles. Sounds like a decent deal, but try to go for $3.5k.

$4000 isn't that great. Depending on condition it is probably worth more like $3000.
