The good and the bad

I just finished rebuilding my engine (my first)-

I ported the intake and not the exhaust- Will this mess **** up (have pics if needed)?

i installed it..........started right up (put some atf before try'n)-

it burned white smoke like a **** (expected) but after 11 miles or so it still does at a stop.

Before i put another engine that didnt' work (that really sucked) and the atf fluid was actually formed a puddle on my muffler cuse i couldn't get it to run with out it (i used like 2 quarts worth LOL).

How long should i wait until i get worried (am right now)?

btw oil pressure fine -60psi off idle and a bit above 30 around idle

also....... i installed a new water pump and the rest of my cooling is good (gutted thermo/fuidyne rad/perma cool fan)......but at idle the engine will get hot but the radiator is not (put my hand on it)

if i rev the gas it will cool down

i'll check belts tomorrow but i just put them on and they seemed fine.

I think it has to do with the coolant line on the rear housing and the water pump (it might be pinched). But doesn't coolant flow through the lower intake manifold......................

any help would be apreciated.

About the smoke, if you ran a lot of atf through it, expect the smoke to hand around for several hours or days of run time. I start rebuilds weekly, and this is normal.

As for the temp. issues, maybe you have a bad thermostat, or the water pump is not working fully (slipping belt). That, or you have a clogged radiator.

I replaced it with a non-mazda one.............and i've heard bad things. I though the thermo was the prob so i took it out.

After taking it out it does that. Which makes me believe it's not the thermo b/c coolant is running full time now, or is that too much fluid to move for the water pump and that why.............?

i can never understand what my car is try'n to tell me

yes the water moves too fast without a thermo. it's a bottle neck to slow it down. it'll cool better with one, then with out one.
