going to the strip tomorrow. what do you think I'll run?

car is 87' base w/ TII conversion(w/ 40k on engine and tranny). and 5 lug conversion.

mods are: (that make a difference in the 1/4)

boosting about 8psi
non working twin scroll
walbro fuel pump
ported wastegate
2.5inch downpipe(no cats)
2.5 inch dual catback.
TID mod and cone filter
electric fan
no P/S, A/C, or airpump
slightly stripped interior
S5 TII wheels w/ decently grippy tires, but some - camber
KYB AGX's and eibach pro kits
6000 ft. altitude.
(maybe some ice on IC)

so, what do you think I will run?

lets assume that the driver is decent, but not excellent(I'm not sure yet).

damn. I ran a 15.8!!!!! that SUCKS!!!!!!!!

its my first time to the strip, so thats probably why. and I'm only 16

my first run was:
16.2 @89.91
60' was a terrible 2.633
it was against a mercury cougar(?) that had a full cage and slicks. that ran a 12.4

second was against a celica GT-S. it ran a 16.6 @ 86mph
I ran 15.8 @89.71 (.2 mph slower than first run)
60' on this was 2.4 (still not good, but big improvement)

also, I saw 2 other FC's. one, was a friend's 89' GTUs(rotary > piston), and the other was a S5 GXL

the GTUs ran a 17.7 (maybe better, I left before the 3rd run). and the GXL ran(the only time I saw it) a 18.6(?can't quite remember)

also, there were a bunch of lightly modded WRX's that ran 16's and 17's. BTW, this was the "High school drags".

yep. so tell me waht you think.

WRX's that ran 16's and 17's? The car stock runs a low 14? Must have been the Grade School drags. j/k

oh, and also the fastest motorcycle I saw ran like a 12.8.
and there were some of those bikes that are supposed to run like 10.5's stock. nothing really ran as fast as it seemed like it should have.
and the fastest car there was a shelby cobra replica that ran an 11.6.

how do I take the twin scroll off? should it say in the haynes or FSM?

and I hope its the driver. that would suck if my car was just that slow. but then again, all the other cars were too. it must just be the drivers, since we were all just high schoolers.

work on your launchr
bah, I don't really care. today, and probably the next 2 high school drags are probably the only time I'll ever drag race it. otherwise its just autocross and circuit racing

the fsm has a description on how to take the turbo off. The twin scroll actuator is simply part of the turbo/mannifold system. It is attached to the turbo mannifold and is pretty easy to take off. Once you take it off, cap the line that the twin scroll actuator used to be activated by. Port the 2 inlets of the turbocharger equally. Bingo no more twin scroll.

OMG! I need to race those people! Then I could actually win against someone! LOL.

That shows the newbs and their WRX's can't drive.
Looks like daddy forgot to teach his kid how to drive.

When I started dragging my 88 SE did a 18.3 and I fixed stuff and it did a 17.4.

My 88 GTU does a 17.00 maybe 16.8-9

You need to get that 60ft down. The best 60ft I had in my SE was a 2.4 and that was a 17.4 run!

Yeah my 88 GTU bone stock ran a 18.3 the first time I ever ran it....first time I had ever been to a drag strip as well hehe. The next time I ran a 17.3 and then from there I hit 16.3 and now I am at 15.3 with mods listed. Lower the psi in the tires and practice.

well, i just got home (i'm the GTUs driver he spoke of).
Why was my time so shitty?
Here are my 3 runs:
_____1_____2_____3
R/T .574 .634 .568
60' 2.611 2.461 2.586
1/8 11.552 11.289 11.421
MPH 61.77 61.09 60.04
1/4 17.934 17.700 17.780
MPH 78.05 77.38 78.17

Didn't even break 80 mph!!!!!!!!
On the first run, I revved to 4k and pretty much dumped the clutch, the engine bogged to 3k and it sucked. 2nd and 3rd runs I revved to 6k and slipped the clutch with the tires chirping a little. On the third run I even chirped the tires into 2nd.
BTW the third run was a bracket race if that makes any difference.

Does anyone know the percent difference in time due to atmospheric pressure? (the actual pressure is between 15 and 20% less, depending on the temp)

Oh yeah, the first race was against a mid 90's mustang GT, I beat the crap out of him (he ran a 19.098), 2nd was against a yamaha bike (he ran a 12.6), and third was against an MX-6 6 cyl. (he ran a 17.792). So I won 2 out of 3 races today .

First run of my life was a 16.1. then got some mid 15's... and kept on going from there (that was waaay before the turbo)
It was a HOT day, with long lines on the staging area. It makes a big difference.

Ya.. I was going to say mid 15's for you!

Why on earth would you do that? 3000 RPM is more than sufficient for a launch. And don't dump the clutch. Go to 3000 RPM and slip the clutch as quickly as the car can take without bogging too much.

Just go to an empty road and practice your launch, but give your clutch time to cool or you'll cook it and leave deposits on your flywheel/pressure plate... then you'll suck even more.

oh yeah, to give all of you an idea of how much the driver matters in these races: An NSX ran a best of 15.3, then ran 16.0. A 2002 CBR600F4i ran a best time of 13.0. An S5 GXL ran a 19.0, then a 19.91. A 3000GT VR-4 ran a 17.1. Many AWD Turbo DSM's ran mid to high 16's. The list goes on.....
