going good

i have posted in a couple of threads so far.
but for the most part i am a noob here.

bought me an 87 gxl n/a for 2k cdn.
lots of issues.

mechanical.

inconsistant idle
stumble at all rpms
3800 rpm hesitation
backfires and running rich
flooding
intermitent no spark
stalling
stuck secondary valve
remaining secondary valve not opening when it should
sterring wandering on rough roads
excessive rear end steer on bumps and dips
brake pedal pulsates

other issues.

wipers work on low only
rear wiper dosnt work
heads up idiot lights dont work ( except ebrake light )
wiring rats nest from stereo
horn dosnt work
notification bell not working
sunroof mechanizem broken ( lift arms broken off, teeth broken off gears )
one wiper arm on front window
rear window defog not working
rear hatch drain holes pluged
hood and light covers misaligned
one light not opening all the way ( one droopy eye )
inteerior trim painted with house paint
pasenger power window dosnt work
air vent louvers not working properly

hmmm a wee bit of a list.

mechanical issues are now dealt with.

done so far.

new TPS ( old one gave readings all over the board )
underhood grounds all redone ( negative battery mess now nice and neat )
CAS checked and tightned
all electrical conectors cleaned and reconected with dielectric grease
all vacume lines checked and redone as needed
unstuck secondary valve ( when redoing ECU ground, i had the manifold off, sprayed some intke medic into port and cycled the valve by hand, move rotors 30 or so degrees and another shot of intake medic, and cycle valve again, repete. must have been some carbon buildup as compression got better in the front rotor )
cleaned and lubed TB and MAS.
new plugs wires and belts ( as needed )
pressure line for secondary valves rerouted touching exaust manifold ( now away from exaust with small chunk of metal tube at high heat point )
cats were removed so i have still to deal with opening secondaries at the correct rpms.
alternator hot line redone ( worn and copper exposed and covered in corrosion )
batery cables replaced
a couple of wires were just twised together ( now crimped with dielectric grese and shrink wrapped )
new tires and an alignment.

one of the front rotors for the brakes is warped ( yet to be replaced )

now it starts as it should ( even on cold days, been a couple of 15 degrees f days, no problem )

interior electrical issues.

resoldered the CPU ( when i did this the heads up idiot light display came back to life, the warning bell and horn came back to life )

realign hood and light covers
readjust headlight mechanizem ( droopy eye )

found a deal with some parts.
catback exaust - sunroof assembly - wiper arms ( all the way around ) - interior trim pieces - vents - rear wiper motor - fornt bumper cover - all for 450 cdn

exaust still has to go in
bumper cover has to go on
wiper switch has to be replaced ( havent been able to find relay replacments, shop close by me rebuilds them with a waranty, but i wanted to save 120 by rebuilding myself, oh well bt the bullet )
and the rats nest stereo wiring still has to be done.

and thats the list.
the most expensive thing so far has been the new TPS at 200 cdn
spent so far $2650 for car and parts.
now it is a reliable car for a good price.
the guy i bought it off of didnt want to deal with the issues, and had no idea where to start. he bought it from a dealer who took it on a trade in, my guess is the person that traded it in had the motor rebuilt and got it back with more issues than it had before ( CAS was lose and the timing was jumping around ) so its all the small things that needed to be dealt with.

still have some rust around the rear wheel wells ( fix that, and the bumper cover with some mods ) new paintjob ( going with just keeping it red ) and i have the car i always wanted. woooooooooo hoooooooooo

a little bit of elbow grease and i am a happy boy

i have to say that there has been a ton of usefull links and advice for all sorts of things to deal with, thanks for all the posts and links.
