Talking GOD I can't wait for this.

Alright, a while ago my alternator went out. I've been without my car for 17days now. I just won an auction on eBay for one off of an '89 for $46.99+$12.65 shipping. Beats the hell out of almost $200 for a new one. I just figured I'd share and while I'm at it ask how long it usually takes you bidders to get your purchases. Its in state, so I would assume it won't take too long. I'll be leaving to Florida for the holidays and would like to have my car on its feet before I leave so I can make a vid. Thanks.
-Lucas.

they don't have any auto electric shops in your area? most people don't think of this but there are shops in most towns that rebuild alternators and starters.

What about rebuilding it yourself. It probably would only cost 20 bucks or so.

its tough to get internal parts anyhow, i did a search because i was going to rebuild my starter but found no one who sells brushes, i might have found a source if i looked hard enough but i tend to give up easily if a search nets me nothing within the first few pages.

yeah i rebuild starters and alternators, ours happen to be a lil pain in the *** to rebuild and not break anything, but if you know a guy at a shop he will just charge ya for parts to rebuild it, most of the times its just the voltage regulators in the hitachi, mitsubishi alternators, but as standard i replace the diodes too, and i just hope that nothing else is burnt up

You know, I think mine had a screwed voltage regulator, or at least thats what I'm guessing. I think I made a good choice on buying another one though. Oh, one question I have thats sorta off topic- can I paint the center peice of the alternator housing? The part thats sandwitched between the front and rear housings? Reason being is that the one I ordered is olive green . I was thinking a nice black or silver.
