Glowing turbo after 1.5 hr cruise

I've done some searching on the subject, but no one really seems to post under what conditions their engine was running.

Its a S4 Ported 13bT with stock turbo, being run by a Microtech.

I went for a 1.5 hr cruise, usually highway speeds and once i got back to the shop i decided to pop the hood, and the turbo had a glow to it. On the highway, the motor is cruising at a 14.7ish a/f with 30 degrees timing... (which according to Microtech, is the max timing)

I just assumed that after such a cruise, due to the heat, it may be normal, but might aswell check!

its normal after some spirited driving, or boosting on the freeway. I would check timing for peace of mind.

My T4 housing will be light red after a regular, non-spirited cruise. low 14AFR, 1300F pre turbo EGT's.

Can't make it NOT happen.

I had a class with an engine lab using an old Pontiac turbocharged engine. The teacher and lab guy walked away when I noticed the turbo glowing not red, but bright orange-hot. Our lab group hit the emergency stop, then the teacher came back and said it was normal (for that particular engine at least). Also grumbled about how the emergency stop wasn't that good for the engine, heh. Anywayz ya others already answered your question; probably no worries but doesn't hurt to check.

I've seen that on my car (turbo S4 engine), approx 4 hours continuous driving on the highway at 75-80 or so, not too aggressive timing at approx 16:1 AFR, no cats or anything. I think it just does that once everything gets up to temperature
