getting a tuneup?

i'm going to ohio in a week and a half from pennsylvania and i want my 88 gxl in good running order before then. i will be getting an oil change and i want a tune up but i'm not car savvy enough to do it myself. can i just take it anywhere for a tuneup or do i need to take it to the local mazda dealer? i would appreciate any suggestions. also if there is anything else i should get checked or tweeked to keep it running good. thanks

Well brad, I don't know if you are trying to test a message or if you really asking a question. In any case this should probably be in the 2nd gen section, but seeing how I am a nice guy I'll try to answer your question first and then move it.

You can take it to any trusted auto shop you find that can do a good job. Here is a quick check list for a "quick" tune up.

1. Oil level (Synthetic oils are usually not recommend for a rotary engines. The 2nd gen guys may have more insight on what they recommend.)
2. Coolant levels
3. Worn belts
4. Worn spark plugs
5. Worn spark plug wires
6. Air pressure in tires
7. Worn wiper blands

You may also want to see what tune-up services each location provides. Some have more options then others. I personally do the work myself, but I some don't have that luxury.

LOL...I just had a feeling that would happen. I was looking through the Test Area (you now doing the mod pimp walk). and came across this thread. So, I moved where I thought it should go.

Oh well, now I guess he can get twice as much help, right?
