Getting a RX-7 running that Has sat for 4 years??

I have been reading and searching many old post, but could not find a good one on this topic. I just picked up a 87 GXL. The guy I bought it from put it away one winter and never got it back out. The car has 106,000 miles on it and he was the orignal owner. My first step is going to be drain the gas from the tank, and change the oil. Make sure there isn't a mouse nest in the air box and put a good battery in it. Should I remove the plugs and put in a little ATF? Compression Check? Pull the fuse and crank it over? If anyone has a link to an old post or a good check list of what to do before I try starting it, and what to check/do once it starts that would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Fred

fuel filter, check to make sure all the vac lines are in one piece. Can you turn the motor over by hand, where did it sit for the 4 years, lots of questions. After you get it running you might want to try the "water trick", search that, kinda steam cleans your motor.

my red gxl sat for 6 years in an impound lot. did a motor swap in my 88 with the gxl motor changed the fuel pump, changed the plugs, and it ran fine after a few days. had the car now for about 3 years.

The car sat inside a garage in Michigan. When it was put away the orignal owner thought it was going to be time for a clutch. He also parked with the parking brake on. I had to use a come-along to break it loose. I know that that can warp the rear rotors, but I planned on putting brakes all the way around it. I am not even sure how much gas is in it because I haven't got a new battery for it yet. I plan on getting a manual too. Is the fuel filter hard to get at? Should I worry about the injectors? Lube anything on the motor?

Thanks
Fred

why octane booster? that would only make the car run poorly. i could see fuel inj. cleaner...

maybe pour a little oil in the lower spark plug holes just to form a temporary seal to help with starting and lubricating.

just as a side question... im premixing in my new engine... ive heard about puttin atf into the plug holes to build compression on first starts. anyways ive got liek 12 litres of 2 stroke oil sittin in the garage right now, is it alrgiht to use this instead?

and how long does gasoline last without stabilizers before it loses it flamibility

Check the plugs, hoses & belts.
Fresh oil & coolant.
Fresh gas & battery.
Pull the EGI fuse & crank it a few times in 15 second shots to get the oil pressure up.
Reinsert the fuse & start it up.

I will run rough for a few minutes, but should get better as it warms up.

Fred- If your're following this, I have a mirror set of the manuals on-line at the link in my sig.
Download & print what you need.

My engine sat for about 2 years now and I was able to finally get the thing to run by putting oil into the lower spark plug holes, but only for about 15 minutes then i shut it off and it wont start..again. I have a stuck apex seal on both rotors, I just got the drivetrain back in my car so I heard the only way to fix this problem is to take the car out a bag the **** out of it. Yet to try it though as I just finished up tonight going to try tomorrow.
