Lightbulb getting closer to project build

yo guys--- quick background on me. i've been a member of this forum for a hot minute now and i'm toying with a couple things. i'm thinking about what to do with my 86 FC base model. i've owned an 87 tii, which i tuned myself to about 275 whp using the s5 mani/turbo; naturally i blew the motor. few years went by and i decided to start with a 86 base model, due to the lightweight start and figured i'd eventually upgrade everything.

time flew by and i eventually upgraded the brakes / booster / wheels to the turbo 5-lug stuff. i tossed on a set of ST bars and the car was fun on steel kicker tires. it got me from pennsylvania to oregon, albeit i almost didnt make it and practically got stuck in mid-nebraska. [fd converted alternator died two weeks later after arriving to my new home in oregon.]

anyways, more time went by and i decided i couldn't stomach getting rid of my FC. so i found a barn and its been sitting for over a year now. in the meantime i bought an audi which i tuned to 375whp. beautiful car, twin turbo k04's, totally love it.

but i'm back, and i'm on the fence about what to do. someone please give me some perspective here.

do i: a) turbo my s4 base model,
b) v8 my s4 base model (seems best)
c) sell my base model and start with a fc 13bt or fd?
d) do something wild like sr20det / vg30det / fc22?

there's so much knowledge on this forum and i'm really excited to finally have the means to build a toy nowadays... any input is appreciate for sure!

Cross B or D off your list. Pistons don't belong in an rx7. Buy a Nissan and let some one else enjoy the Wankel.

You could try your luck with a jdm t2 engine. It's always an option.

if the car is pristine then build it, if not sell it and buy what you want.

As cool as a vg30deTT would be in a FC, I agree with tuscan no piston in a 7! you have the car make it what you want because you'll end up replacing almost everything on the other car you purchase during upgrading anyway.

Don't cross b off your list...
You can pick up a lm7 5.3L vortec at a junkyard out of a newer silverado or something similar cheap, plenty of reliable power and better gas mileage to boot.

I wish I had started with a base model....

The rotary isn't that bad though, I think first you should decide what a realistic budget for this is. Then figure out your goals and pick the power plant that will get you there best and most reliably.
