Getting another FC, any S5 owners?
Hey guys, I haven't had a 7 in quite awhile, but I've owned two FDs and an S4 gxl in the past. I'm looking st getting one for my girlfriend. Its a S5 90 GTU. I've never directly owned an S5 so I was wondering if you guys might be able to chine in with some advice.
I go to look at it, car starts fine cold, warms up to about where it should according to aaroncakes S5 guide,, starts fine warm, holds temp just fine, ac/PS all operate as they should, however here's where I'm stuck.
The car absolutely will not accelerate whatsoever, it acts like it misfires if I give it anymore than 20-30% throttle. If I idle it in drive and VERY SLOWLY give throttle I am able to get it up to about 4500. As long as I am insanely light on the throttle the engine revs smoothly with no issues.
I of course didn't buy it right then and there, but from the research I've done it can't be secondary injectors because it does it when parked as well as when driving. I'm thinking it might be in limp mode. The cel did come on when the car warmed up.
Revs smoothly if I am very very gentle on it, anything past like 20-30% and it just acts like its missing or hitting a wall. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Any S5 guys might be able to provide some insight?

The seller said he occasionally drives it, so maybe, but then again he also said it "runs good" and it did that when I got there.
That did cross my mind of it being a fuel flow issue, but like I said when I was extremely extremely light on the throttle I managed to get it to rev up to 4500 ish when parked...any heavy throttle inputbamd it would just hit a wall and act like it was missing

Didn't have any codes, so maybe far from your problem, but many years ago (2001) our S5TII idled fine and if I babied the car I could get it to 80/90,but if I hit it even half throttle it would buck/miss. Checked everything I could so I took it to Dave (KD). He could get it to act up on the street, but on the dyno the "EKG" looked great. Finally got it to act up, cracked seal. Mazda reman. engine and perfect so far.
Guess we'll see what the code might be.

Sounds like a good deal. Starts and runs smooth so the engine internals are probably fine. Could be a bad TPS or MAF. Don't try too hard to fix it on the spot or the price might jump. I'd use the issues to beat down the price to a couple hundred. Sounds like the owner is tired of dealing with it and it's an old car so there will always be new issues. If you go through with it, don't forget to post some pics so we can welcome you back!

Pics below:
Not a fan of the wheels, anyone in the central florida area want to trade for some stockers?
Looks to be Ebay brand fartcans, Prior owner cut out the cats and had a straight pipe welded in. Annoyingly loud. (I revved it and it actually shot part of the cheap packing out of the left muffler, funny but annoying haha)
Panel in decent shape, speaker cover is showing peeling on fabric, though. Drivers auto belt works fine.
Passengers side is mostly intact, Auto belt is stuck though, Hello mazda recall.
Interior is a bit dirty, could use a cleaning. Already looking at sourcing parts for the five speed swap.
Not bad for the Mileage.
Needs misc trim pieces, obviously. Drivers side lower steering column cover needs replaced as well.
Back is hanging off because I was checking tail lights, but aside from that tire, its relatively clean.
Few misc things wrong with it, wiper switch, clock, and turn signal relay need the solder joints repaired. Radio turns on and lights up, but does not function. We plan on keeping it for originality sake, might have to look into getting all of those repaired.
Anyone on the forums pick up in Icemarks footsteps as far as repairing the solder joints go?

Missing the owners manual, but at least some things were still present. My last FC had the window sticker =(
This image.
Maybe more people should take this course.
Misc warranty info.
Apparently one of the previous owners had an aftermarket cruise control system put on. Never seen this on an FC before. A quick google search yielded that the company is now out of business. This could be a bit weird, I'll come back to it later, more pressing matters.

I would also do a MMO decarb on it.
More years than I care to admit to one of my customers had one of these going through auction, wouldnt get out of its own way. Was also an automatic ( with a busted u-joint ).
Did a decarb on it and fresh plugs and wires and it ran like it had a turbo on it
dont forget to check the basics- firing order correct, correct plugs installed, etc
people not familiar with the car like to turn screws they have no business turning, check TPS, etc

you do want to change that thermostat neck sooner, rather than later. they start black and then change colors as they age to white, and yours is white

lmao, yeah, its a nice car, but you can see they put a radiator in it, and didn't put the bolts on the duct back, and the plug wires are all screwy. typical sloppy work

I'm pretty sure the coils are connected properly, Just by glancing i know the trailing and leading coils are going to the trailing and leading plugs, they might be swapped on the wrong rotor, but i doubt it, i'll double check regardless.
I'll do some basic cleanup work on it this evening, route the cables properly and whatnot, and pull the codes. Probably about to head to advance and grab two leading (BUR7EQ) and trailing (BUR9EQ) plugs among other things, pretty sure i remembered those part numbers right. I'm so glad FC spark plugs are cheaper than the ones for my rx8

I pulled the codes, here is my thread documenting it if anyone wants to see if I read them right.
