Thumbs down GD, 5th Gear Sync out.

Well the more I drive this thing the more I remember why I get so tired of finishing someone elses problem... I put the car in fifth gear today, CRRUNNCH. Everytime only in 5th. It's a Brand new clutch with 50 miles on it so I know it has to be the Syncros. I am going to try and bleed the clutch cyl out and see if it helps but I assume the Tranny is on the way out.

I have a T2 tranny and another GOOD N/A tranny around.. Should and can I:

Use the T2 "gear section" middle part of the tranny on an N/A bellhousing and tailshaft?

If not I guess I will just slap the other N/A tranny on there....

interesting thought on TII gear box, N/A trim....to be honest I don't know if it will work, but my guess would be no. Given that the input shaft is different from TII to N/A, as well as the tailshaft - one would decude that wher the input shaft meets the gears is also different.

However Im not a gear box guy so I could be wrong.............

if you shift slowly into 5th it doesn't crunch.

haha...I have that problem with my 3rd gear syncro. It doesn't do it if the rpms are low though.....but, what fun is that? Anyone know how much a tranny rebuild is?

Though you dont seem like the type to have this happen but are you sure you put enough gear oil in? When I first got my car and changed the tranny oil, I put Valvoline 75w90 in and id grind almost every shift into 5th unless I shifted slowly. When I changed my clutch I put in cheaper Accel 75w90 and the grinding stopped.

Yeah I used castrol 75w90. Eh, I hope I can swap in the T2 mid-section.
