gauges cluster problems

trying to install some reverse glow gauges, and I can't seem to get the whole cluster out. I keep on reading there's like some "plug" or something holding it in place along side in the middle, but I can't see or feel anything back there. The left side I can pull out some, but not enough to stick my hand in back there. Don't want to yank too hard and mess up something or other. I can feel it tugging on the speedo cable as I pull on it...

Also, my dash lights and logicon lights aren't working. Before they were flickering, and may work randomly in the future. I've read through some threads about this, but found no answers. How likely is it that the problem lies with the switch, given that it works normally in switching on headlights and stuff like that? Or should I follow the wires connecting to the switch through the dash?

Tachomoter also stops working after flooding, but works otherwise. The thread I found just said to start the car without flooding it.

not sure about pulling the guage cluster, but if your cluster lights and logicon lights aren't working then you should check your taillights. If they are working then you mostly likely need to fix the inards of your switch...not very hard if you're handy with a soldering iron.

yup, taillights work, so i need to fix up the switch then. Thanks.

Finally figured out the gauge cluster thing, with some more nerve-wracking yanking. Need to be tender with my baby.

No one knows about the tachometer thing?

I do not know about that tach but I have exsperianced it rendomly not working on several of my rx-7's I have owned.

I installd my guages with the unit in car just kinda pulled it to side and worked in tight quorters. I pulld nettle off unscrewd 2 screws and placed overlay on. I then drilled through the top of the plastic in several areas to rought the power lines. This worked very well. I used the light switch connector for my power source. I used a test light and tried each plug turning the lights on and off. I then depind this wire and solderd my guage wires here and reinserted pin. Note this works great when you u turn your lights on but only works with lights fliped up so if you turn it only to running lights the indiglow will not come on. If you want them to come on then test for that wire.

I sugest buying a new light switch befor going ahead with this to be sertain they will work properly and soforth. You can purches rebuilt ones here www.mazdamark.com
