gauge wiring help NA S5

I was told that the wire to splice into is a thick blue wire coming from the fuse box next to the pedals. I just need verification on the wire before I start splicing. The gauge is an autometer procomp ultralite electric water temp gauge.

There two wires to the lighter. One powers the lighter while the other one powers the light for the lighter.

i assume the wire that powers the lighter light is what i need for the gauge light. i'm mostly concerned with the power for the gauge though. i want to make sure that fatter blue wire is the switched ignition wire before i start soldering and splicing. i've looked through to wiring diagrams but i'm still not sure so im looking for a confirmation.

Your light on the gauge can be spliced into the small bulb that runs the cigarette lighter bulb. That allows you to dim the gauge with the headlight switch.
Take the +12volts off the Stereo power wire(it's fused). It will power up when you turn the key.
I think blue/red stripe at the stereo harness.
(There is also a thick black w/white stripe for the ignition switch that supplies 12v switched too.If you tap that you can have power off the switch)

All you need is test light to find a12-v when the key is on position and dash light

I am just going to add that everyone should always use a multimeter for stuff like this. A decent one can be had from Sears for a mere $20.
