Gauge setup issue
Gauge setup issue
I don't remember if I mentioned it or not, but I've been working on a complete renovation of the stock gauges in my 86 NA 5-speed. I've already pulled everything else out of the car and installed nearly every gauge. I have a few issues, though. The first deals with the fuel gauge. I'm not entirely sure if I found the right wires for the fuel tank level, but the reading I get looks about right. I just can't be sure. The needle also moves about 1/8 or so of an inch when I hit the brakes or put it into reverse. I used the black/white wire off of one side of the wiring harness to the stock gauges, and the black/yellow wire off the other side. It appears to work fine, but I'm not sure. It still fluctuates when the brake/reverse lights come on. Any ideas on this?
Another thing is that since I've done this, I get a "beep, beep, pause", but only when I turn the running lights/headlights on. What is this and how do I fix it? Thanks in advance!
I can't seem to find any answers in the search.
Btw, black carpet has arrived. Will be going in this weekend most likely!

2-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of engine speed signal:
The buzzer sounds twice and repeats when the vehicle speed signal is missing input and/or no engine speed signal is found (short circuit, broken wire, etc.)

Thing is, I've already read that. I searched it and found it. That's only when the car has been running for so long and I get above a certain speed. No lights. This beeping that I'm talking about comes on the second I turn on the running lights or headlights. I have a feeling it's linked to the gauge face being disconnected, but, to be honest, I'm not sure.
sounds like you are having a voltage problem. when you hit the brakes or put it in reverse you are activating another circuit that I am guessing that is why your gauge is changing. The same thing fits for when you turn on the lights. I would check the voltage at the battery when you do one of those things compared to normal then I would check the voltage at the gauges when you do those things. If there is a voltage drop at either place that is your problem.

I've also learned after doing more searching that when I removed the stock instrument cluster to replace it with my project that I effectively disconnected the speed sensor in the speedometer (which didn't work) and the tach from the ECU. What do I have to do to fix my beeps? I hear "beep, pause, beep, pause" and "beep, beep, pause, beep beep, pause". I think I'm going to go crazy! :P
I know what these beeps mean. I just need to fix them. Any help with KEEPING the aftermarket setup. I already know there's going to be someone who says "Put the stock cluster back in." Anyone? Thanks.
