Gated shifter? Anyone tried?

I have access to some pretty thick CF (10 layers) and was contemplating making gated shift plates out of them- has anyone ever tried to make a gated shifter (much like ferrarri sports) for the rex? I would like to know if this is possible- I have a turbo trans in my s4 vert and am just dinking around here- I can get the cf in thick pieces (roughly 1/4" thick) and plan on cutting the shift pattern out. What would make life easier for me is if one of you guys had already worked out a pattern that shifts easily- otherwise I will start playing with templates until I get the pattern finalized.

Thanks in advance-

TK

just a thought tho. wouldnt you have to change our shifting rod like where the ball is @ the bottom. i mean the s4/s5 shifters are like 1 inch roughly in diametere then they taper down to whatever thread is for the shift ****. so i think youd have to change that too.. maybe cut and weld like a rod on there and start toying around with that seeing if it will even shift right like that.. then start the process with the gated shifter.

yep- I have heard that the 3rd gen guys used smaller round stock welded to the bottom of the shift rod, but they still had problems with the short throws- was hoping our 2genners were a bit lengthier in the rowing department. If that is the case, it may not be worth the effort- I will just find another creative use for my thick azz cf

I will start fiddling around and trying to determine if this is worth it- I also have a second stock shifter in case I fubar this and have to return it to stock.

Another thing to consider is short shifters. They'll change the pattern size, so you'd have to make it shifter specific, which would limit the market size. If I wanted one (I don't) I think I'd do it in polished aluminum or something, becuase the Ferrari ones are metal too.

I thought about this a loooong time ago. It cant be done. The shifters ferrari uses for gates are designed differently. Notice how they dont tilt when you row through the gears? Its because they dont sit on a fulcrum like our shifters do.
