gas tank woes

well...original gas tank that came with my car has at least 5 big holes in the bottom part. i purchased a gas tank from apex auto parts, that one has a bullet hole in it. or some sort of hole.

that is the original tank. here is the tank i received.

i have already gotten in touch with apex auto parts and they are replacing it, but i dont know how long that will be so i am waiting around to see what happens.

has anyone else had to replace the gas tank? if so, where did you get a replacement?

i know of another car i could get for parts for a good price, but im not sure if i want another complete car sitting around. i am not sure what to do, so im waiting for them to email me back.

funny thing is, the top of the 1st gas tank is fine, and the bottom part of the one i received is fine, but i highly doubt i could have two different tanks assembled to have one with no holes. if only it were that easy...

to be honest, i have no idea. it looks like someone hit it with something on purpose.

i doubt they parked the car on some rocks, but stranger things have happened i suppose...

I was going to replace the fuel pump in mine, my friend was over, so I asked him to take the old one out while I went and got the new pump. I com back to find out he drilled through all the screws, with a drill bit bigger than the holes, off-center and all the way through most of them. After taking the tank off the car and cleaning out all the metal shavings, my dad came up with some kind of crazy way to repair it, but now only he knows how to put the fuel pump back in and I can't get the car running again till that happens (he somehow filled the holes with JB weld or something, and retapped them but you need to put the screws in in a particular order or some ****. I have no idea.) I'll probably just end up buying another tank for $40 off a guy an hour away from me one of these days.

Haha yeah, I was shocked, because he works in a shop and usually knows what he's doing (he's helped me out with a lot of stuff that turned out better) but this time... I don't know.
