gas smell from near the fuel filter...

i've got a strong smell of gas from the driver side of the engine bay...any clues as to what's leaky there.

to my knowledge, there's only the fuel lines that could be leaking in that area of the engine. haven't checked the lines yet, just fishing for ideas when i get home.

thanks,
john

definately should not be the pulsation dampner....i've got an s5 engine (91 n/a) and the smell was only near where the brake fluid resivoir was. no smell at all on the other side near the injectors. i also replaced the pulsation dampner when i did my engine about 6 months ago, so it should be fine.

i'll check for dripping, but i didn't see any leaks from the top or on the ground (didn't have a chance to look from underneath though).

i think my filter is about a year old (maybe 30 - 40k miles on it)

thanks,
john

With the engine STONE COLD, jump the yellow test connector on the passenger shock tower and turn the key to "ON". This will force the fuel pump to run. Now simply look down to where you suspect the leak. See any drips? Inspect all the fuel lines while you're there...

BTW, the S5 pulsation damper CAN leak. I've seen it before.
