I plan to find out how many miles I can get out of a tank before the engine goes cough
ya all our fuel sending units in the tank work the same, gauge drops quickly from full to ~1/3 then dips slowly... im sure this was by design to help us not run out of gas since apparently it is very bad for our fuel system/motor

yeah that whole "last quarter slow dip" thing really tripped me out. i thought it was jus my car. so when you reach the last 1/4 of the gauge, how much gas do you still have?

actually it is very much snake ****, not even as good as snake oil.

I have posted the MSDS for it several times.

It is really nothing more than mineral spirits. As posted many times, it is an absolute waste of money.

It is about 75% Hydrotreated heavy naphthenic distillate solvent extract

Synonyms: Severely hydrotreated heavy naphthenic; Mineral oil, petroleum distillates, hydrotreated (mild) heavy naphthenic; Petroleum distillates, hydrotreated heavy naphthenic; Mineral oil, petroleum distillates, hydrotreated (severe) heavy naphthenic

(so in otherwords it is the solvent left over from cleaning cracked oil)

and around 20% Stoddard solvent
Synonyms: Aliphatic petroleum distillate

(In other words: oil vapor from boiling mineral spirits)

and the remainder is Benzene (which is a formerlly common cleaning agent found in (among other things) Urinal freshner screens). Benzene is now banned in California, so it will probably be phased out of use in MMO.

btw i was told that stiffening your suspension could help gas mileage (or maybe it was acceleration?). i don't quite remember but could it be that when accelerating, the car tilts back and somehow stresses the engine more to the point where you need to gas it a bit more to gain acceleration?

i'm not sure if i'm making sense or not.

That's absolutley false pertaining to gas mileage. Acceleration is (somewhat) true. It's a balance, a super stiff suspension will make your wheels hop

If you can get 400 miles at 80-90mph then why am I only getting 300 at 60-70mph (with A\C on)?

(it reads 293 miles)

I'm running out of gas...

Remember S5 models have 2 gallon bigger gas tanks than S4 models.

So at very least if you are getting 300 miles for a tank, somone with a S5 should be getting around 350 if they get the same exact highway mileage as yours.

But I would be skeptical of anyone claiming 400 miles on a tank. Figuring that most people fill up when they have 3 gallons left, that would be 26.7 miles per gallon on a S5 and and 29.6 miles per gallon on a S4.

Even if you drained a S5 tank to empty (used all 18 gallons), at 400 miles you would be getting 22.2 MPG.

Are your guages correct? I'm seeing 0 oil pressure and high coolant temps...

Oil sender is dead.

Koyo rad is on it's way. I refuse to put on commuter miles on my weekend car so I'm still driving the FC, I just take it easy (55mph highway)

I wish i had a backup car that was in one piece. Currently my FC is my DD and my MKI MR2 is awaiting the engine rebuild and transmission swap (auto>>manual), but i need to figure out if i want the coolant seals replaced or the MR2's engine rebuilt since they both cost about the same.

I get 26-27mpg at 65mph. I get 23mpg at 80mph. I didn't mean 400 miles at 80mph. My car is stock except for all synthetic fluids and a cone intake, which both help a little.

ya u're right, was probably more like 360-370, I am S4 and i have been claiming 27mpg highway since ive owned this car (do teamfc3s search for KeithD), cruise control 99% of the trip, tons weight reduction, perfect alignment, perfect air pressure in tires, manual rack, no a/c... and finally Restore (6 cylinder can) in oil, HUGE difference in power and used it from 195k to 240k when it seized (the Restore was NOT the cause of the seize)

edit: of course full tuneup, bosch o2, tps set perfect, afm flap never binds

Your highways must be considerably slower and flatter with considerably less traffic than in California.

Or your speedo is off calibration.

Even the factory spec for highway at 55 MPH is only 24 MPG. Again I would be extreamly skeptical of any FC that can do better than 25 MPG

**** u caught it before i corrected myself

edit: and speedo is not off, 600 mile trips u tend to travel with the same cars for a while cause u're both doing 80mph or 85 mph, doubt every time i set cruise at 80 every other car around me was doing 78 (for example) every time

I'm in California. I got 27mpg on VERY hilly roads. Same with 23mpg at 80mph. Used cruise control at 80mph, even on most of the hills. Except the very steep ones when 4th gear became a necessity. The roads might have been more hilly when I was going 80 tough, I dunno. I always coast downhill, even if it makes me go 90mph (rare).

if your worried about the gas mileage and how to get better gas mileage................myswell sell the damn thing cause it a rotary motor=shitty gas mileage, deal with it cause it aint getting any better. If it makes you feel better I only get 180 miles max to a 16 gallon tank been like that since I bought it in 2002. So dont feel so bad.

When i removed my emissions i got 2-3 better mpg if i pushed it or not, but i've noticed that my n/a when it was running got much better gas mileage than my TII. And my n/a had blown seals.

the picture should answer your questions, no oil pressure, broken alternator(12 volt = battery), and an overheating engine. i don't imagine any of those are good for gas milage...
