Gas fumes from shifter housing

Anybody have any suggestions about this?

When I first start my car you can see the fumes coming from my shifter. It is alot worse in the morning on the first start of the day.

Also, I get small pops in my exhaust when I first start the car. After about a min or 2... the pops go away. Does this sound like leaking injectors?

Are the injectors from other Mazda's from 87/88 like the 626 etc.. compatible with the 7's?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Replace the rubber shifter boots.

No idea on the injectors in the 626, and compatibility would depend on the year of your RX-7 as well (high or low impedance injectors)

MAybe the o2 sensor came out if the part of the exhaust that it is in. Happen to me once, so it pretty much is an exhaust leak. OR maybe you have a gasket missing from in front of the precat. DOn't know if this makes any since to anyone so you got questions, ask them.

Ok.....

My O2 sensor is fine, checked it yesterday for other reasons.

My exhaust gasket is old, but OK. I took the exhaust completely off about 3 weeks ago to check it out, and gut the cat.

This just started happening this week. When I start the car, its like a mist of fuel that shoots into the cab of the car.

It goes away quick, but is quite annoying.
