gas filler neck problem
I have a problem when I try to put gas in the car. It stops immediately as I try to put it in full blast. I can ease gas into it, bit at a rate of like 40 seconds a gallon. And that is moving along quickly. I checked the vent lines and they are clean, the lower rubber tube is clean and the tank is good. From the top, I can barely see in there and it LOOKS like somebody tried to syphon some gas out but left the tube in there or shoved it down in there when they were done or failed to get gas out.
I've tried to get the lower hard tube disconnected but it is too much of a PITA. I guess you need to remove the muffler and heat shield, but I can't do that without a grinder or somethin because it's a custom setup.
Since I'm not sure if that hose is supposed to be there, I wanted to ask if there is some kind of inner-hose for the top filler neck and maybe the hose collapsed somehow? I got some of the hose out, but it is stuck in there good so I am just not sure about it...
BTW I just got this car a few weeks ago and it's done it ever since then so it happened to the previous owner.

im no expert but my car has the same problem. after asking around to some other rx owners it seems to be a common occurance. i dont think that your problem is out of the norm. i find that i have found a sweet spot at the pump that lets me go full bore when filling. the trick is to hold the nozzle so it just fits in the tank, with the nozzle almost shooting directly down. you should save some frustration at the pump this way.

There is a valve that is part of the fuel tank vent system. I believe it is called the "check and cut valve" and is located on the underside behind the passenger storage bin area. If that valve is bad, pressure builds in the tank during fueling and will shut off the pump. Testing proceedures in the FSM or Haynes manaual. Look up "Evaporative emissions control system."

i had this exact problem. all i did to fix it was to remove the pressure hose...stick a coat hanger up towards the filler and then down the fill tube itself. i wasn't expecting it to work b/c it didn't go in very much...but i filled it for a few seconds venting it into the trunk (open of course) and then plugged the vent hose back up and it was good to go. surprised the hell outta me, good luck! hope it works for you.
