garret gt40 v band flange on compresor side

for some reason my turbo has a v band flange on the charge side going to the intecooler. most of the people that i talk to say that is odd setup some body had to swap the housings I dont know anything about it cause i got from a guy who got it from a guy. so the thing is i got to do something . don,t want to cut it off the housing are to expensive to monkey with.so my neighboor works at a machine shop[ and is making me one out of billet . so now the ? is in order to make this flange and v band clamp work together the flange he machines has got to work with a v band is the lip on that tapered and do i need a gasket?

vbands dont need gaskets... thats the whole point of a vband is its two matched rings that are clamped together reeeeally hard by the clamp

correct... the backside of both flanges is tapered, the more you tighten the clamp, the more it squeezes the two flanges together; so you will not need a gasket. thats the whole point of a vband setup, simple an effective and no need for gaskets. hope that helps.
