Fuel pump issues on my S4
It seems that i need a new fuel pump, the stock one in my car is in terrible shape and has corroded from sitting for two years prior to me getting my car last month. so what kind would be best for my car (BTW it is completely stock for now except for my straight pipe which i put on two weeks ago) i was looking at the Walbro 255LPH fuel pump for $99.99, but do i really need a pump that can handle up to 600HP on a stock car? yes of course i will be doing some performance to my car and later on do a turbo kit, but i probably wont pass 400HP and maybe on past that but not for a few years most likely. so is there a different pump i should get? any insight on this issue? Thanks in advance.
So it's an NA car? No way do you want to run a walbro. The high flow 255 likes to overwhelm the stock FPR and make a turbo car run extra rich, let alone an NA. You'll be wasting fuel and costing yourself power if you run anything bigger than a stock NA pump.
Have you checked your filter (sock) at the bottom of your filter? Mine was clogged, replaced it and it cured all sorts of problems.
But now it's acting up again, so I think a new fuel tank is in order, too much crud floating around in this one.,

But given your issue, how exactly do you know it's the fuel pump? Typically fuel pumps either work or don't work. When's the last time the fuel filter was changed (along driverside frame rail), and what is your fuel pressure? I'd definitely try and new fuel filter and test the pressure before buying a whole new fuel pump.
Fuel pressure at idle should be about 28-32 psi, and with the vacuum line pulled off of the FPR, it should be about 40-43 or so. The second pressure is at a simulated load condition, where the engine would be out of vacuum and operating at atmospheric pressure. This is where you would expect to see a pressure drop if you have a restriction in the system (ie dirty fuel filter).
The other thing to test is the TPS. If your TPS has a dead spot, it can give you all sorts of problems with the throttle in different positions.
yeah mine was pretty nasty, i cleaned it with carburetor cleaner but the problem persists, i had my mechanic look inside my tank and he said the amount rust in it was normal and it wasn't too bad, but i was considering a new tank because there is rust in mine, but again its minimal.
well i just put in a new fuel filter that is under the engine and it still does it. well heres the problem. when i am driving my car i cannot give it more than half throttle at about 3800-4000 rpm's. after driving about 2-3 miles i can get my rpm's past 2500 and if i give it more than 1/4 throttle it cuts out and makes a strange sound almost like the fuel filter is sucking in air or something like that. if it helps i can make a quick video and upload it to youtube. and BTW Thanks for your help and advice, im new to my rx-7 and i really appreciate everyone being so friendly and quick to help solve a problem. oh yeah and i forgot to mention, after a few miles of driving i have to stop because i cannot drive my car. but after sitting for about 2 minutes i turn on my car, and the cycle repeats itself.

i checked out that page for my TPS, it could be that, a lot of the symptoms listed on the site are what my car is doing. but can a bad TPS make my car perform THAT badly to where it is undrivable?
