fuel pump

hey, i have a 86 rx7 n/a and im trying to swao fuel pumps, but i dont know how to get to it. someone told me to look under the carpet in the trunk and take off the metal cover and that it should be there. i did that, but i dont see a fuel pump anywhere. its just this tube with a spiral thing around it and another hose beside it. can anyone tell me how to get my fuel pump swapped? thanks kyle

Umm that is the FP sending unit thats what you want. The FP is the little silver can with wires going to it and a hose. If its not there then theres no FP.

And why are you swaping pumps? Or do you mean just replacing it?

Oh! i know this one! You took off the wrong cover. the fuel pump is on the left side if youre facing the back of the car, the cover you took off is over where you put the gas in the tank. The fuel pump is inside the tank, you have to take off the plate/bracket- there's like 10 screws holding it down. i havent actually taken off the pump from the bracket but i'm sure it's not that hard. do you know what youre putting in it? Walbro seems to be an easy way to go.

yeah i'm usually the one in need of help so this is encouraging to me. ha ha but yeah i would go ahead and get a walbro 255lph if your getting a 13bt cuz then it'll give you room for improvement if you decide you want a race car later. plus theyre only $100 whereas buying a new stock one is way more.

oh and one more thing- the stock n/a fp is not good enough for a tII just incase you are considering a stock pump.

Go to www.iluvmyrx7.com/2nd_gen_manuals.htm and download the Factory Service Manual (FSM) in PDF format for free. For this job you need the Fuel & Emissions chapter, but this is your bible for doing any work on the car. Pretty much anything you'll need to do is in there somewhere.
