fuel pump?
i have an 86 FCG N/A, that refuses to start. I have recently changed the plugs, checked all the fuses. When I try to start it, i can hear the elec. systems drawing power, but the engine doesn't turn, or make any sound whatsoever... I'm pretty sure it's a bad fuel pump, 'cause i disconnected the fuel line from the engine, and cranked it, but nothing came out...
My Q are these: where's the fuel pump relay?[couldn't find it]
can i change the fuel pump in my driveway?
if so, do i need to drop the tank to do it?
where do babies come from? [j/k]
any help would be spectacular, 'cause i don't wann pay a mechanic...
THX!! marco

Firstly confirm the pump really isn't running. Jumper the yellow fuel pump check connector in the engine bay (by the right strut tower), turn the igntion on, remove the fuel cap and stick your ear by the filler. You should clearly hear the pump.
If you don't hear it, pull the carpet from the left rear strut tower to expose the fuel pump plug. With the check connector still jumpered and the ignition on, use a DMM to measure the voltage across the blue and black wires. If there's 12V present, the pump is dead. If there isn't, it's an electrical problem.
If the pump's dead, yes you can remove it in the driveway though the panel under the rear carpet, no you don't need to drop the tank. See the FSM for details on removing the pump (page 4A-68). If it's electrical, grab the FSM wiring diagram (page 50-36) and follow the electrical path until you find the problem. Make sure you remove the jumper wire before driving the car.
