fuel level sender

Is it possible to repair a fuel level sender? My gauge gets erratic readings.

The sender is an attachment to the fuel pump assembly. Fuel pump assembly is in the tank. Before pulling that, check wiring between tank and gauge cluster. Could be a frayed wire or bad connector.
