Fuel Leak

Here's what I have: '87 TII with a fuel leak. I have removed the UIM & ratsnest and replaced all the rubber - vac and fuel. Also, replaced the fuel filter and related hoses/clamps and Pulse Damper.
Lately, driving when i'ts hot out, I can smell raw gas. I can't seem to find it. When I raise the hood, it doesn't seem to be coming from under. I've looked under the car along the fuel line and no discernable leaks.

Any suggestions how to troubleshoot this?

I know its a bitch to pull off the UIM and all that fun that goes with it, but did you try jumpering the fuel pump so its pressurized and look for the leak? Its just a thought, that way its under its pressure while you can listen for hisses etc while the car is not running. I had a small leak as well and I couldn't find it without yanking the UIM and jumpering the fuel pump.

There's a jumper near the pressure sensor if I remember correctly which has 2 wires in it, those get jumpered to geather with a paperclip or wire. Then you have fuel pressure building up with the key on. (car not running.)

Careful as with any pressurised system to watch out for some sprays when you pull on a hose or something of the sort...

Have you checked the area around the charcoal canister (passenger's side firewall) for the smell? I've removed my emissions, and my charcoal canister was no longer being purged, so it would smell of gas. I then proceeded to remove said canister and just vent the gas tank pipe to air. I'm going to run a length of vacuum line this weekend & vent it down under the car.

I agree with the idea of jumpering the fuel pump & looking for leaks (CAREFULLY!). There will be a hissing sound, that's the fuel flowing through the regulator, and is perfectly normal.

Thanks, that's a great idea. I was puzzling about how to see a leak since I can't get under the UIM until it's cooled, and therefore dried, off.
I have to take the UIM off anyway, because I want to install factory air bleed lines for the oil injectors. I just used regular vac line and I think two aren't working properly - kinks and all.
I'll update when I go through this. In the mean time, I'll drive carefully and carry an extinguisher.

Another great idea, Russ. I'll try this too and let y'all know what I find.
