fuel injector resistor???

fuel injector resistor???

i have an 87 T2 that now has an 89+ motor in it. i know the early 87 cars like mine ran a different impedence to the fuel injectors than the late-model cars. i know i have to bypass the resistor to get my injectors to work properl, but im not sure how to do it, hell im not even sure what the resistor looks like. is is the solonoid resistor that the haynes manual shows? another question is, when i do bypass it wont that make it so that NO resistance is going to the injectors? it needs a specific resistance doesnt it? i forget what it is, i think 2 ohm? anyway, i got the car running, but im scared to drive it because with it running the wrong resistance, i dont want to burn up my injectors, so it sits in my yard. when have driven it, it drives great, almost perfect. makes good boost, pulls hard, idles good, stays cool, just plain good. but i dont want to have to buy new injectors so i leave it alone untill i get it fixed. so any help would be apreciated becuase that means i can start driving my car reguraly. so please help me out. what does the resistor look like?(pic would be VERY helpful), and how exactly do i bypass it?

Page 143 of the Haynes manual has a picture of it, 2 views, 19.1 and 19.2. I wouldn't worry about burning up injectors. If you have the unit on your car (it would be on the passenger side of the car under the stock air cleaner case), your injectors would be getting too little voltage, and therefore cannot burn up. The only way to have the injectors burn up is to use the 86-87.5 low impedance (approx. 2 ohm) injectors without the resistor pack. Any other combination is safe. For high impedance injectors, all you need to do is unplug the resistor assembly and short all the wires going to it together. Fixed. Have a good day!

cool thanks man. i apreciate it. i figured the picture i saw in the haynes was what i needed to rewire. i kinda-sorta did. but im terrible with eclectrical, so i dont trust my own work. i just broke the ceramic resistors off the harnes and wired the 4 wires into the main middle wire. i dont know if thats how i should have done it, but i figure it will work for now at least. thanks alot.

Did you swap out the wiring harness too?
If you still got the original 1987 harness still in there, why don't you use the old fuel injectors too?&nbsp This makes it a lot easier than worrying about jumping pins...

i ordered a jap motor. the 89 harness was cut. i used the 89 injectors because the ones i had in my 87 motor were crap. i originaly bought my car as a parts car and then decided to build it up. i have this thing with project cars. but anyway, the motor that was in it was blown and had been sitting for about 2 year when i bought it. when i took out the 87 injectors they were crap, so i decided to go with the 89 up injectors that came in my new motor. it was a pain to make the 87 harness fit the 89 motor. i to swap quite a few external parts of the motor. but i think its worth the effort. like i said above....im TERRIBLE with electronics, so i would hve definatley screwed somthing up if i had to swap harnesses. so i just did the work and made it fit.

Don't you have 720cc secondaries? I've not seen any high impedance ones before. I had to put resistors on my 88 to use 720s.

yes i have 720cc secondaries. i dont belive they are high impedance. i bought them from a friend of mine(you may remember him from this forum, name is Sickboy) and he had resistors wired in-line to them. im not woried about the 720s, im worried about my primaries which are stock 89+ 550s.

Just making sure you still have the resistors on them. I was worried about the 720s getting fried. So you're still using the 87 harness? You had to modify the plug for the 550s then right?

yeah i took the little bit of jap harness that was attached to the motor when i got it, and cut the plugs off and re-soldered them to my harness. i was worried about it working, but it seems to work fine.
