be sure all the perimeter bolts and oil pan are removed then tap around the edges with a dead blow mallet. the gaskets get pretty baked on after a while and i hate to pry on the cover, it should come off rather easily once you have broken the sealing bond.

Shouldn't be. Once the front cover is off the seal pops out pretty easily. Use a screwdriver and pry it out, making sure not to damage the surrounding metal. Tap a new one in nice and easy with some kind of large socket. I sometimes just tap it in with only a hammer... not the preferred method, but it can work. I also like to pack the seal with grease to ensure the spring doesn't pop loose while tapping it in. I hope you didn't drop the thrust bearing when you removed the main pulley hub.

I don't think I did but if I did do you know where I could get the bearing?

You won't need to replace it if it dropped, just re-stack the front bearing assembly if it was disassembled improperly.
