Front left turn signal doesnt work?

when i bought my car the front left turn signal wasnt working... so i thought its just probably the bulb.. i replaced the bulb.. still no work...

one thing is...

before i swapped the bulb.. when i would signal to go left.. the dash indicator would have the normal flashing arrow... after i changed the bulb it now has a flasher blinking arrow like those useless ricer mods....

my car is a 1989 Gxl...
any idea wtf is going on?

btw i did search.. didnt find anything...

Thanks

First, remove the bulb, and with either a voltmeter or a 12 volt test light, check to see that there is electricity going to one of the contacts at the bottom of the socket. If there is, then check to see that the other contact at the bottom of the socket is grounded. One or the other is going to be the problem. Before you start checking, clean those contacts with whatever you can reach in there with. You want to see nice bright, shiny metal on those contacts.

I had a similar problem on an older car. When the lights were off, the blinker worked fine, but as soon as you turned even the parking lights on, it shorted the socket and the bulb was on full bright.

I sprayed some WD-40 into the socket and cleaned it up a bit. No more issues.
