front cover removal - keeping timing tricks?
Hi all.
Situation: Taking the front cover off of my s4 t2 engine and putting it on my s4 NA because I am making it turbo, and want to have the front cover for the oil return. I have never messed with timing and such.
Question: Do you know of any tips or tricks to keep the timing correct (perfectly stock) while changing front covers?

Sub-question: Does the stock oil pressure sensor port/hole have enough pressure to split (Y) the connector and run that as the oil line to the turbo? Or do I need to get an oil pedestal adapter?

The CAS controls timing... and since everything is keyed, you won't have to worry about it too much. When you put the new front cover on, you will need to line up the CAS the same way you normally would (check FSM for procedure).
I would say no,but maybe, on the oil pressure thing... For an accurate reading, you should get an oil pedestal adapter.

Well I'm not to worried about the reading, just getting enough oil to the turbo.
But I guess I will do it right the first time. Im tired of going through engines.
Oh! I thought you were going to use it for a gauge... I didn't read the part about the turbo.. I would definitely not use the oil pressure sensor line for the turbo. I don't know a whole lot about turbos.... but that is a pretty small hole.

Hmmm k. Well the oil pedestal has the same size holes (just 2 of them), so maybe I need to figure out another way to get pressured oil to my turbo. :\
Or maybe it will be easier to drill and tap the pedestal for a larger hole. The lines going to the turbo are pretty small, but I will have to research more.

Update: Ok, well I ordered the racing beat adapter that has one 1/8 hole, and one 3/8 hole. That should be big enough. Thanks for your help.

UPDATE!: haha I canceled my order with RB, cause a friend of mine, (kompressorlogic) just runs his turbo oil line from the pressure sensor hole. He has no issues, so now I just gata find some semi special fitting to be able to Y it and still have my pressure sensor. He just uses high pressure fuel line. (4$ a foot here eeek) but I have some extra so I should be fine.
We will see how it goes.

you can get braided stainless line on ebay for less than $4 a foot, and it is a hell of a lot better. if you guess the length close enough, you may even be able to get a used take-off from a race team that already ahs the -AN fittings on the ends....
