Friend is having over heating problems

Well, being a dumbass that he is, he forgot to turn on his efan after buying the car and the gauge went straight to the (S5) bar before the H. He turned off the car and did the heat+efan while he let it cool down. Possible chance he blew the coolant seals already? (7k on rebuild) Does the trick when you turn on the car with the coolant cap off(cold) work with a fluidyne radiator as well? Then after a long drive back home, he stopped and let the car cool down, the coolant filled up his over fill tank immediatley....but not overflowing out(Please not the coolant rings) After the car started back up, the coolant went all back into the rad/motor. Is everything okay? I plan on getting a better fan for the radiator and a real bumper that will help direct air.

sounds alright to me. if they are fresh seals and have 7K on them like you stated im sure the car is fine, just check for burning coolent and the usual symtoms of blown coolent seals. there should be no reason why the trick wouldnt work with the fluidyne radiator as long as the coolent capacity is the same or close to stock. any symtoms? anything different after the overheat?
