Question Fresh Air to Cat question...

Can I hookup a hose directly to the air pump instead of getting it through the ACV. My ACV's black connector thingy is broken.

Hi HENRX7. Oh no, I, the evil naysayer, am replying again. Sorry.

OK, here's the story. Below 4200 rpm, the only time you should be getting air to the cat is when you are accelerating. Otherwise, air is injected directly to the exhaust ports. Also, the ACV is supplying air for the anti-afterburn valve on deceleration. Above 4200 rpm the air pump air is vented to the atmosphere (unless you are decelerating, of course).

Two possibilities occur to me from your post. One, you want to bypass the ACV. If you do, all the other functions will not work. Your engine will still run fine, it'll just backfire a lot and fail emissions. Two, you want to keep the air going to the ACV, but supply the cat via a T or something? I'm not sure what will happen if you are injecting air to both the cat and exhaust ports. Never tried it.

Hopefully this helps. Good luck!

If you are talking about a black 2 pin connector,it's for the port air solenoid valve and does not influence air flow to your cat. Also if you have a US spec car with a 20k mile switch, this solenoid is inactive after 20k miles. If you have a Canadian car just go to a wreckers--there are lots of solenoids available.

Here's my setup: I am activating my 6-port right now through the Air Pump using some hoses, barbs and ball valve. Below 3500, the air is vented to the atmosphere and when it reach 3500, all air is directed to the 6-port and it will start to actuate.

So from your explanation, I come up with this idea. Instead of venting air to the atmosphere when its below 3500, I can actually direct it to the cat converter. So in this case, there will be no air escape throughout the RPM band. And if it really need to be below 4200 like you said, then I can adjust my ball valve to have my 6-port activated above 4200 instead of 3500.

Yeah, I think that's the one that broke. So you're saying that I can just leave it off because it's not functioning anyway? So it also means that it will not having anything to do with emmisiion stuff anymore.

That's cool guys!!! Thanks a lot for the info. That's why I love this forum

Oh wait I forgot to add this. So with my setup, I would still pass emmision without my ACV right?

It depends on what the standard is,and what kind of test you have to pass(idle only,2525 etc)but if you are not injecting air through the ACV it will be difficult to pass any tough test. You need the port air injection(more important than split air to the cat).Without port air you will make about 300-500ppm HC.NOx and CO could be ok.
