A free 87 that doesn't start? SIGN ME UP!!
About an hour ago, I came home with a new addition.
It started off simply enough, my roomate hit my car.
Ouch!
Daaamn!
My lil red injured girl, is a regular base model 86 with nothing, except power mirrors (??) and an aluminum hood, dated 5/85 and had never been in any sort of accident
Shitty, but not deadly (body shop quote of $2600? right...)
After looking at a couple FC shells and parts, I found this gem(?) on Craigslist (It's free because my roomate is paying for it)
http://eugene.craigslist.org/car/357046805.html
I'll throw up some real pictures tomarrow after work
Hot, hot 4-lug action (my damaged one is too )
It also has a sweet black dragon decal on the rear drivers side. Also, as an added bonus, it has a nice aftermarket dual exhaust, I don't know anything more than the fact that it isn't even close to stock.
The plan now is to swap the parts I need (+A/C)between the two, then get to the daunting task of bringing the '87 back to life.
I'm going to pull all non-essential things out, and see if it needs a rebuild (probably). If I end up doing the rebuild, I'll also do a mild-heavy streetport. Also, I'm going to gut the interior (it's in pretty shitty shape as it is), and give it an updated suspension set (no coilover$ yet ).
As I said above, I will be putting up some proper pictures tomorrow, so I can show you the sweet racing pedals

that red FC is VERY easily repairable. new bumper, fender, headlight lid, a 10mm ratchet, a screwdriver, and a rubber mallet will take care of all of that. none of the stuff damaged is sturctural, its all costmetic. finding those parts should be easy and cheap, and since you have the generic red color that 98% of FC's have, you probably wont even need paint. i wouldnt take on the task of swapping everything to a new chassis just because of that little damage.

I'm only swapping the fender and such
I agree that swapping everything would be a bad idea
Though, the entire drivetrain the red one has been changed out, as well as a lot of other stuff.
The white one is going to become my track car and the red one will stay my DD
sorry for the confusion

So your red car will have a white fender and bumper on it? And I went through all the trouble of painting mine to match factory color. If only I knew about all these people with white body parts all over their cars earlier.
If I were you I'd put the aftermarket catback onto your dd. Unless it's too loud. I'd leave the cat on the white car unless you know it's clean enough to pass smog.

And the red one has a much nicer Corksport single catback on it, so I'm going to keep the dual on the white one.

I jacked up the white one after work today, just to take a look, and noticed the struts and springs had been replaced. The struts are KYB GR-2s and the springs are too dirty to tell. From what I'm finding about the GR-2s, they are comfortable for the street, but not really a whole lot else.
It seems to me that the dual 2" exhaust on the white one would also work better for a DD, by being quite a bit quieter, and, correct me if I am wrong, slightly more restrictive in the breathing department.
Plus, since the body of the white one isn't as straight as the red one (except for the obvious :p), if it get door dinged or anything, I won't have to get as pissed about it.
The picture of the engine bay doesn't really show how dirty it is. I think I need to replace most, if not ALL the wiring under the hood. When we hooked up a battery to it, all the electrical stuff worked, but when we turned the key, it didn't even try to crank (I'm going to check the starter tomorrow)

IMO use the beat up car for a track car, b/c you're going to beat it up some more. Use the better looking, better performing, more reliable one for a dd. Unless you do a whole lot of track driving, that seems like the way to get more. Just $0.02 more. I think you're up to a nickel now, take it for what it's worth.

The white one has a straight body from the pics...why even **** with that? Just leave it alone as your project for later. For now, just pick up a s4 nose and fender off the forum for your red car and have it painted to match. This could be done for around $250 all day long.

That means the white one is staing complete and the red one will be repaired and repainted

You can bypass the ignition switch by running power to straight to the starter solenoid to see if it cranks. test the ignition switch and see if when its turned to the accessory or run position if any power is distubuted. If so then try leaving the switch in run and jumping the solenoid if thats the only problem your golden.. Chances are it is deeper then that. good luck
