Found an S5 T2 Need to know value
Hey guys, I found a T2 S5 FC... the body is flawless but will need paint, the guy said hte engine "locked up" but I know the rotaries usually dont lock up... but i will rebuild and upgrade most of the engine parts as well... plan on a serious build up... he said everything else on the car works... it has been sitting for 9 years! but looks great besides some sun oxidation on the paint. anyways he said shoot him a price... and wouldnt give me a ball park figure of what he wants for the car... ofcourse I plan on talking it down... saying it needs this... and that... but everything on the car is stock and intact... over all a nice car. the interior is good too but ill be changine it to black. Ok now to the question... what would you guys say the value of the car is or what would be a good starting offer... since he didnt give me any idea of what he want it may be rediculous and ill say forget it or i may get a hell of a deal! So any advice would be helpful. thanks!

Its going to need a lot of work if its been sitting for nine years. Hopefully the apex seals are just stuck since its been sitting for nine years, you can loosen them up by pouring a little ATF in there. But theres also a good chance that the engine will need to be rebuilt. Plus you'll need new tires, I would replace all the vacuum and fuel lines, etc. etc.
Also, how does he know that everything else on the car works if its been sitting for nine years? Exposure to the elements can take a huge toll on a car's components and rotary engines don't take too well to sitting for long periods.
I would try to lowball him, especially if he won't give you a ballpark figure. That probably means he either (a) has no idea what its worth or (b) doesn't care what he gets for it. Like 88 GTU said, $800 isn't a bad initial offer. If he says yes, you got yourself a good deal...especially if you can get the engine running without a rebuild.
