Found an rx7 local craisglist.. good buy?
------- of course it sold as I was posting this ._.
So I've really always liked rx7's, but I don't know anything about rotaries, nor does my mechanic, but he's good with engine swaps so that's probably what i'll end up doing, but until then I need a daily, & I've looked at 240s, I just don't think they're as fun as rx7's.
so this car I found is a 1986 rx7.. called the guy and he said it's a little over 130k miles.. also he said that it needs transmition mounts but it does run and drive. the body is pretty straight, a little scraped on the front left qp and right rear qp, but the paint is clean.
oh and it is a 5 speed.
He's only asking $1650 obo - cheapest I've seen for a running FC.
haven't looked at it in person yet, but I've only looked at one rx7.. what should I look for when I do go to see it?

Make sure it doesn't smoke white smoke heavily (bad coolant seals),have hard time starting when the engine is hot (low.compression), or overheat at all (will cause coolant seals to go bad as well), if it smokes alot at high rpm that means the oil control rings are going (which means its burning way more oil than normal), check for coolant in oil and oil in coolant, check for major.rust under the car , in the engine bay etc.
Other than that off the top of my head I'd check for coolant leaks and exhaust leaks etc, if it has 5 lug wheels its the better model and has a limited slip differential (posi), other than that everything is pretty much common sense (make sure it drives smooth and not like sh*t)
If it runs and drives see how many miles it has, 150-175k is questionable to how long it will last if the engine is original, but many times when they have high miles the engine has been replaced or rebuilt, if you want to be really serious you could bring a compression tester and test the compression.
Look.everything over and make sure there's no ghetto mods/fixes that look half assed (that's s bad sign but doesn't mean you can't fix it)
If it runs and drives and has no major problems make an offer and see what he says, never ask.the selling price always see how much less you can get it for.
