Did you use the Ford alternator plug?
I'll probably buy a reman alternator, which won't have a plug on it.
The Ford alternator connector I should say. The wiring harness end.

Here's a diagram that might help. But simply put, in the diagram, 'A' connects directly to 'B+', and 'I' connects to the rx7 switched 12V in the harness (there's only 2 - one is constant, the other is switched -- I believe it's from/ for the dash).

That's exactly the way I wired mine.
I just used the white/blue (stripe) wire (the thicker of the 2) from the old rx7 harness and connected that to the thick yellow/white (stripe) wire (some harnesses have different colors) from the ford alternator which is connector 'A' in the pic. I also connected the thinner white/black (stripe) wire from the old rx7 alt. harness to the green/red (stripe) wire from the ford alt. harness, which is 'I'.
I can only draw 2 possible conclusions.
A) Your connections somewhere are loose --make sure that the connectors inside the main clip to the alt. fit tightly, as well as that stator wire which is by itself. I actually cut off the old stator connector because it was soo loose and used a new small female terminal instead. Obviously check the way you connected the wires with the butt connectors or soldering you did as well.
B) The alternator is bad.

I just bought mine new (not reman) for $105
