foglight switch

i want to modify the wiring for the foglight switch so it is independent of the headlights - i.e. i want to flip the switch and be able to turn on the foglights without having to turn on all the lights...

how would i go about doing it? could i just tap a 12V in there vs only giving power to the switch when the lights on? or is it different?

and whats the correct way to remove the center thingy... i dont want to break anything getting it out....

thanks

im not a electrical genious, but i can tell you how to get that center thingy out.
if you cant pull it out using your fingers in the coinslot, take a flathead and gently wiggle around the sides, then take a pliers and GENTLY(you dont wanna scratch the cheap mazda plastic) pull up on the coin slot thingie. should come out fairly easily(it just clips in when you want to put it back)
trainwreck517 is good with electrionics, you might want to ask him for help.
best of luck!

Thumbs up

You could do it that way, but that doesnt really offer any kind of protection. I made you a cheesey schematic on how to do it with a relay. I think you should put a fuse inline with the fog lamps too(not in picture)

I just realized you had an S5, are these factory installed foglights? If so, you wont have to do much. The FSM doesnt show the wiring for the foglights but does show how to test the relay for foglamps(PAGE T-52). You could just rewire that relay to match my schematic. But test and trace the wires first, dont want that TII going up in an electrical fire
