Fog lights in brake vents?

When I owned my first FC in '86 they (Mazda) said I couldn't put fog lights in the openings in the front spoiler 'cause they were for the brakes? On the 'vert that's posted(another thread) has them in the there. What's the deal?

the 86-88 are known as series 4 the 89-91 are series 5

the series 5 has a slightly different front bumper and has larger openings. The GXL model and probaby some other series 5's came with foglights where the 'brake ducts' go.

I couldn't find the right replacement bulb, so I swapped the originals with some smaller inexpensive running lights. (see Sig.)

The outlet for the break duct is not very direct, and wasn’t doing much for the breaks, so I inverted the removable portion for a future ram-air cold box hookup.
