impact wrench ...

you are using air tools right ... the only thing i could recomend if you arent is to use a 3foot steel cheater bar with a break bar

get a big impact wrench and crank up the air pressure and let it rip...ive already held the impact on one for like 3 straight minutes before it broke loose

Get a hammer and do something like this. Hold with one hand and make sure you keep tension on the cheater bar or it will bounce after you hit it. In the picture, hold with your left hand and use hammer to hit with the right hand. I used a hard mallet hammer when I did it. 3 hits and it was loose.

No offense fossil_484, but I've tried it that way, with the engine still mounted on my stand, and all I manage to do was warp some studs. fc3sdrifterz, I'd suggest you put your engine on the floor and take an impact wrench to it.

PS. When you do get the flywheel off, and have "trouble" with the flywheel itself coming off. Just hit it with a rubber mallet. Mine came off with 3 hits. Don't be a *****.

+1 on the impact gun. Gotta remember that thing is torqued to 300 ft/lbs. After some wear and tear, it's hell.

P.S. what did you guys do with your 2-1/8 in. socket? Having no more use for mine ( sofar ) I just turned it into a paper weight on my desk.

If the engine Is IN the car.Find a TRUCK STOP Mechanic(the guys that Change tires Out on Big Rigs,The ones' with Air Guns and compressors On/In their Trucks!).That Is waht I did,It cost me 25 Bucks, and ZZIP!..it was off!..I had the Socket, and the bar.teh only thing was the engine Was IN the car,So I couldn't use it.I had used the bar before though(Engine out).Strap engine to Pallet.Put a small link of chain on the Bolt that holds the Pressure plate Down, and the other side goes to a Bolt that usually Connects the Trans/Engine together. Then have a buddy sit on the engien to prevent Rocking and STEP on the bar.It works Good, too!

What the hell studs did you warp??

I found this method to be be pretty easy. You can also set the block on the ground without the oil pan and get a cheater bar and metal pipe to fit over the bar, then you have leverage to remove the nut. You need someone to stand on the motor to keep it from moving.

I used a steel hammer on the side of the flywheel being careful not to hit the teeth and it popped off easy. It's a sure way to shock it loose.

With the engine mounted to the stand, I had a 54mm socket on a breaker bar with a pipe extension. I basically supported all of my weight on the bar with my arms and "bounced" on the bar. It came of pretty quickly after that. The other ones I've taken off weren't even that hard to do, but this one was from a stock non-rebuild motor, so it was the first time taking it off in 16 years.

Also, Fossil, he is talking about getting the nut off, not getting the flywheel off the e-shaft.

This is actually well covered in the FAQ as it's a very common question.

Like that picture but buy a 20lb hammer (sledge) for 20 bucks. Do what fossil said but use the 20lb hammer. It acts and does the same thing as an impact wrench.

NOT wind up and slam type hit, just hit the breaker bar a couple of times. And heat on the nut helps since it's SUPPOSED to be installed with locktite on the threads.

Later, the 20lb hammer will come in handy in other projects around the house.

if you have seriously tried everything the guys have said, which i know you havent, (which might i add has been discussed about 1000000 times) then you just need to ship your motor to kevin landers to get the bolt off for you.

its hard to get off. use a big impact or a long cheater bar. i stuck a 10' piece of pipe on the end of my breaker bar and pushed. i actually thougth that i broke the bolt whenit snapped free.

I used a BIIIIG impact gun the first time i had it of... Not good. It smaked so hard that i belive it fucked the "key" that is in the "keyway" (or what do you call it?)
So after i reinstalled everything and took it for a ride the car started to shake violently.. My new flywheel had split the "key" in two and turned 30 degree on the e-shaft... Who could belive that?! hehe.. Wired troubleshooting :P

I use a 4 ft bar in the flywheel side. I drill 2 holes that bolts into the existing pressure plate holes. Removed the oil pan, strainer and front pressure valve. PI place the engine flat on the surface. The I use a 6ft pipe and using the breaker bar and the socket. I get one person to stay over the bar when I push the pipe. The bar was horizontally parallel to the floor. Make the force forcing it to the bar-floor side. This will keep the engine from flip over.
