White smoke is usually excess water or moisture in the exhaust, but if its really dense and thick smoke its probably a coolant leak/rupture in the engine. I'd get the engine and the coolant pressure tested, thats the easiest way to find out. My car has a little leak and there is a little white smoke on startup, but it goes away pretty quick.
If the car starts, check and see how much coolant it uses over say a week, then compare it for a few weeks. Definetely do not overheat it otherwise more damage will be done.
I know my car has a small coolant leak, but it doesnt affect the engine temp, or the pressures, i just have to add some coolant to the tank every week or so. I'm getting new hoses and a new radiator and e-fan when the money comes in
If it doesnt start too easy, maybe get some new battery terminals and check the CAS, a clean connection is sometimes all the car needs.
