five lug conversion questions

I can't seem to get the axle out of my back spindle. I used a punch and a hammer and beat the **** out of it but it doesn't move. Any advice?

Soak it down with some rust penetrant and leave it sit overnight. Be careful beating it because you can mushroom out the head and ruin the threads. Just work with it slowly, and put some anti-sieze on it when you put it back in. If soaking it doesnt wotk, use a hub puller (tool than bolts to your lugnuts, with a threaded section that presses the axle out when tightened). If you dont have one, you can usually rent them from parts stores for free.

use a brass hammer or rubber mallet and you'll never have to worry about mushrooming.
