Picked up a 1986 rx-7 non turbo for a song but has a few probs and figured you guys could help me better than anyone. When cold , it blows smoke like a dragon but after 2-3 minutes there is none, not even during heavy acceleration. i was told it had sat for about a year before i got it. Any ideas on how to clear that out or do i already start looking for a new engine?

A little smoke is normal almost off the factory floor. Of course, this one sitting for a year makes it far from factory floor condition. Change all your fluids, as you do not know excactly when the last time they were all done, keep in mind that the rotary engine injects oil into the combustion chamber and there for uses oil, rather than simply cycling it like a reciprocating engine does.

there's much more, but that's some good basic up front stuff you should know. Check out the FAQ in particular at the top of this forum and get very freindly with the search feature. It kinda sux sometimes when you wanna search for something like "FC" because it requires at least 3 characters, but ah, well...we deal with it, right guys?

OH, and uh yeah. Welcome to the board!

yea, i was planning on doing all that tommorow if it doesnt snow, but i have been reading on here about the water misting into the intake, would that be wise for a newbee? Seems like all i have to do is remove the air filter and mist water in while keeping the rpms up..(it is white smoke BTW) . I really wanna get rid of that smoke before the g/f sees the car and tells me what a mistake i made , hehe

white smoke means coolant seal....in order to fix it you must take the engine apart so you might as well rebuild it and port it.
